● Responsible for providing the day-to-day supervision of high complexity test performance by all licensed testing personnel and non-licensed personnel.
● Performs pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical steps.
● Responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
● Be accessible to laboratory personnel to provide either on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation as needed.
● Resolves technical problems in accordance with policies and procedures established by the Laboratory Director or Technical Supervisor.
● Assures that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
● Ensures that test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is properly functioning.
● Provides orientation and training to all testing personnel.
● Evaluates and documents the competency of all testing personnel.
● Evaluates the clinical and production teams’ performance (e.g., attendance, expectations and goals).
● Ensures all work is performed in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and participates in all regulatory inspections.
● Manages and coaches the Clinical Laboratory Scientists and Lab Associates.
● Organizes periodic team meetings to review laboratory performance, discuss improvements and set team goals.
● Creates and maintains reports that include deliverables, such as turnaround times, team size, number of tests being performed expectations.
● Supports CLIA, CAP and New York compliance.
● Possess an active, valid license as a clinical laboratory scientist issued by the State of California to perform high complexity testing appropriate to the specialty or specialties they are supervising.
● Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution with a major in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences and, subsequent to graduation, has had at least four years of pertinent laboratory experience of which not less than two years have been spent working in Molecular Testing laboratory.
● A minimum of six years of experience in high complexity testing. At least two years have been spent working in the specialty or specialties they are supervising.
● Must be meticulous and detail oriented.
● Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
● Must be able to focus and multi-task.
● Must be self-motivated and passionate about patient care.
● Must be a team player.
● Previous experience as a General Supervisor is preferred.
● Must be familiar with CAP, CLIA, NY state regulatory requirements.
● Must be enthusiastic and have a positive attitude.
● Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change and pursuit of continuous improvement efforts and be part of process improvement group discussions.
Physical Requirements
● Repetitive movement of hands, arms and leg, fingers (typing and/or writing).
● Requires sitting (15% of time), walking (10% of time), and standing (75% of time).
● Gripping and grasping.
● Exposure to general office environment conditions.
● Reaching above/below shoulder level.
● Occasionally required to lift up to 20 pounds.
